Melanoma (also called malignant melanoma) is the most serious type of skin cancer. It affects young adults as well as older people. It can be caused by too much sun exposure, but sometimes even people who haven’t had much sun get melanoma too. The treatment is mainly surgical: the melanoma is cut out.
